You will probably recall a period about 5 years ago when we received a barrage of planning applications for land across Horndean, Clanfield, Lovedean, Blendworth and surrounding areas. We were able to successfully navigate a way through this and direct our local needs to Land East of Horndean (about which I will post an update shortly).
Well, we are required to update our local plan every 5 years so it is ‘up to date’ which means we can identify where development takes place (inside our Settlement Policy Boundary). if we allow this to lapse, or can not generate sufficient building permissions then developers are allowed to submit applications for land that is not in the local plan provided it is a ‘Sustainable’ development – a topic for another day…
Every year we do a ‘Call for Sites’ which is asking land owners to submit details of land they would be interested to develop, and these are sifted. Sites of special scientific interest, sites in flood plains, sites with harmful visual impact are several other categories are removed. the short list is then filtered and with input from parish councils, neighbourhood plan groups, residents associations and individual commenters are filtered further to get the final list.
You can register on the EHDC Website for updates on the local plan and how to make your own representation.
Please note that The South Downs National Park has its own local plan and this applies to areas outside of the park.

Elio and the team at 4 London Road are holding their first Charity event to raise funds for Alzheimer’s on Thursday 4th October at 7:00pm.
The ‘Dine Out For Alzheimer’s’ event will result in all profits being donated to the Alzheimers Society – a charity Elio has supported form some time. They have set a target to raise £3,000 but I think we can double this so help Elio here…
The evening booking is £30 a head with selected tapas and pizzas and there will be a number of surprises on the night.
Nolan Bird, a very shy and quiet local businessman and employer, has donated £1,000 of prizes for the raffle (including a track day) so please come ready to bid on some great prizes and support the evening.
Nolan (who owns NA Curtain Walling, a specialist construction firm http://www.nacurtainwalling.com), we can finally reveal has made over £10,000 of anonymous contributions in the last few years to local projects including the War Memorial refurbishment and the Australian De Haviland Mosquito memorial.
A number of other businesses have sponsored the event and Elio will post an update of all of the prizes here shortly…
http://www.horndeanmatters.com is also sponsoring a half days hire of a 1950 Rolls Royce Silver Wraith from www.thecarfortheday.co.uk worth £450.
