So Locally we are being targeted with some fly tipping again with multiple tips around Chalton, Finchdean, Blendworth and other outlying quiet lanes.
For reasons I disagree with, we (EHDC or even private land owners), are unable to put up trap cameras at regular fly tip spots as this intrudes on privacy and images collected from such devices are unlawful. Apparently the need to be able to fly tip, pee in a layby or just innocently drive by without our being intruded upon is sacrosanct and a greater good against the cost to society from cleaning up after these scum.
Personally I don’t mind being filmed, recorded or photographed as everything I do is either lawful or natural human nature…
So the latest fly tips targeted the track by the railway bridge at Chalton on route to Finchdean, and any information is welcomed.
Sonja Reams, one of thre Environmental officers from EHDC said that “My investigations have led to a householder giving a very clear account of a woman with a white van, accompanied by a teenage girl, knocking her door offering to take her waste which was in her garden for a fee of £50, this was later fly tipped just a few hours later. “Please be advised there are cold callers offering to take waste for a fee which has later been fly tipped within our community. If your waste is found fly tipped and you have not taken reasonable steps to ensure that the person at your door is a licensed waste carrier with the environment agency and obtained a written receipt detailing your waste, YOU could be held liable and be faced with legal action by EHDC. Fly tipping is a criminal offence and as a householder you have a responsibility to ensure your waste is taken and disposed of by licenced carriers only. If it sounds too good to be true then it probably is, don’t take the risk, check online that they are registered before you exchange your money for your waste. That sounds quite lengthy but you will understand the message I am trying to get out there.”
