For those of you who aren’t aware, there is going to be a County Election on May 4th and I would like to take this opportunity of letting you know that I am standing again as your Conservative candidate.
During the past four years I have worked very hard for you all in Horndean and I will list some of the things that I have achieved.
I started by getting the yellow lines refreshed as in many places they were faint and causing confusion and I have them down to be done again. HCC. Have a new company doing the work for them now, so I am hopeful that things will happen a little faster.
Stonechat Road had been on the books for about ten years and not moving forward, so I started with that, followed by Victory Avenue and White Dirt Lane. All of these were done to try and solve problems with traffic and many people have told me that they are happy with the schemes. Of course, there are some problems still to be solved and I will keep on top of these. When Victory Avenue was done, the footways were also resurfaced along with many side roads.
I worked with the Parish Council to get bus shelters on Downwood Way and managed to get the speed limit reduced on Downhouse Road to 40mph, which will help reduce the speed on Lovedean Lane.
I am now working on getting a refuge in the road so that people can cross to the Lovedean village Hall in safety and hopefully it will pass the feasibility study that is taking place now. This should also help reduce the speed of traffic on this straight piece of road.
Parking around schools is always a problem and I have been working with the police and the schools to try and reduce these problems. Parking around Horndean Technology College was also a problem for residents living on the road leading to the school and a scheme was delivered working with residents and the police and hopefully it has helped.
I drive around my division every month and report anything that I see and also work with residents who have problems where they live.
Your Ward Councillors also contact me with any problems that they have and we work together to try and solve them. Sometimes it takes a long time to get things sorted out, but we usually get there in the end and I report to the Parish Council every month at the Parish meeting in Jubilee Hall about what is happening in Horndean.
At Winchester, I am on the Health and Social Care Select Committee, where we try to solve problems within Hampshire to do with Health and we question and take health officials to task.
I am also on the Children’s Select committee where we also try to sort out any problems to do with children, which goes very well with me being co chair of the Hampshire Autism Partnership Board where we work very hard to sort out children with Autism and learning disabilities and last but not least I sit on the Regulatory Committee where we discuss and decide upon everything from rights of way to building or extending schools and many other schemes.
If you add to this attending Full Council Meetings at Winchester and my surgery every month in Rowlands Castle I am kept very busy.
I would also like to advise you that I am now attending a surgery at the Blendworth Church Centre on Blendworth Lane with the police and the next surgery is on Wednesday 22nd March from 10-11am, so please come along and visit us.
The layby on Havant Road that was removed some time ago is now going to be reinstated very soon. This has taken a very long time, but I didn’t give up!!
Traffic calming is always on my mind and I know from the messages I receive that it is something that bothers many people right across the County, but it has to be safety led before anything can be done and so I would ask you to let me know of any accidents etc. that happen so that I can log them and use them as evidence as this is the only way to get something done.
I have offered to help pay for speed limit reminders, but to date, the Parish Council have not taken this up. These really do help and I have already paid for some in my division and they are a very useful tool to help slow the traffic.
I am always available to speak to you at any time and if you would like to contact me, my phone number is 02392 413858 or you can e mail me at marge.harvey@hants.gov.uk and I will get back to you quickly.
I do hope that you exercise your right to vote on May 4th and of course would like to think that you might vote for me to continue the work that I have been doing on your behalf for the last four years.
Marge
Good luck, Guy. You’ll be great as a County Councillor. It will be particularly good for people living in the Downs Ward in Horndean as you have always been such a champion for us. You can count on my vote.
