Horndean Parish Council held its annual Remembrance Day service this year and attracted the largest crowd on record with an estimated 750 people present in the audience and parade. The team clearly spent a lot of time organising it this year as the road closure, size of the parade and number of people attending were all impressive. Sincere thanks to HPC and Peter Cox for the hard work.
Road closure? Not where I was standing! Buses and vans going past on London Rd made it difficult to hear at times. Outside PA systems are hard enough to manage without extra background noise.
On Sunday morning last, at the Memorial, I was standing in the rain, feeling a bit damp and chilly, but then I thought of those in the trenches in World War 1…. Unimaginable…. and I didn’t think too much about the rain after that…
A very good turn out to pay respect to all those who gave their lives for us.
Many thanks to HPC & in particular Councillor Sara Schillemore for all the work in raising the funds for, and organising the restoration of the war memorial.
