I am standing again as the District Councillor for Downs Ward and very much hope to have your support. Over the 8 weeks I will be out and about to seek feedback and your views. Inevitably you will also get the traditional flow of manifestos, leaflets and other material that comes with an election. The good news is that this is generally recyclable but I hope you will read it first, especially mine…
Whoever you plan to vote for, please do get out and vote. It is that one opportunity you have to give your view and make it really count.
Over the 2 and a bit years the blog has been running I have kept the articles factual and pretty non political. It is very important to me that it is an unbiased and local resource whatever your political beliefs. First and foremost I am a Local guy who wants to make the community better regardless of party politics. I happen to have Conservative views. I have no plans to politicise the blog in the run up to the election so while the party I represent has a ‘Long Term Economic Plan’ I will not be ‘Weaponising’ the blog with hardcore politics or attacking the other parties and candidates.
I will of course be knocking on doors and out and about but I will let you into a secret – I do not enjoy this part of the election run up. Intruding on someone’s private time while they are busy or relaxing is a little invasive and while I very much enjoy the positives of canvassing from people who find it engaging I am concerned about how some people find this very intrusive. I hope to improve both of our experiences in this.
For Downs Ward:
1 – If you place a note in the window by the door that says ‘No Canvassing Please’ then I will not knock. I will include this in the next newsletter for the ward.
2 – If you would like to speak to me about local issues then email me on firstname.lastname@example.org and I will be very pleased to make an appointment to see you at your convenience.
3 – I will also be doing some outdoor consultation where instead of me intruding at your home you can speak to me. Keep watching here for details which will follow. It is likely Cllr Schillemore will also participate for her ward and George Hollingbery, our MP will also join in.
If you would be happy to put a sign board on your lawn showing support for me then I would be very grateful and would like to hear from you. Similarly I have some A4 window posters.
Finally, I would be very interested in your views about canvassing. Please do complete the poll here and tick ANY response that you agree with, even if it is more than one. There is also an option for ‘other’ if the suggested answers do not work for you:
