Many of you will receive the Catherington Village News Letter which is organised by Nigel Steward, who is also Chairman of the Catherington Village Residents Association. The newsletter gives out regular bulletins on key community issues and is welcome to anyone who has an interest in the community. I would encourage you to subscribe by emailing Nigel on VillageNewsLetter@Fullbore.Org and the article below is from the newsletter which gives some very useful advice on local health services, especially where A+E services are under pressure right now.
Many of us are concerned about health-care issues, and read reports in the press, such as that in today’s Times about 81 year old Florence Cunningham’s 11 hour wait for an ambulance, followed by two hours on a trolley at Queen Alexandra’s hospital, before being moved to a cubicle.
To reduce the strain on A&E Departments we are encouraged:-
To make an appointment to see our GP; or
Discuss matters of concern with our local pharmacist; or
Call 111 to seek advice; or
When appropriate, visit our local Minor Injuries Unit (“MIU”)
I am writing this newsletter as it appears that few of us are sure about where to find our local MIU, what services it offers, and when it is open. The local MIU is Petersfield Hospital, on Swan Street, Petersfield and is open from 08:00 to 18:00 seven days a week. Telephone number 01730 263221 – Extension 125

On the website they say that they deal with “Health problems or accidents that are less serious or not likely to be life threatening. Examples are:
• Cuts and grazes
• Sprains and strains
• Broken bones or fractures – but note no X-Rays except weekday mornings
• Bites and stings
• Infected wounds
• Minor head injuries
• Eye problems, such as minor eye infections or scratches”
Note however that Petersfield only has an x-ray facilities on weekday mornings, and that last “admissions” are at 17:45. In conclusion I should say that I am not seeking to criticise local healthcare only to publicise the services of our local MIU.
