National tree planting week 2014
Horndean Parish Council Countryside staff teamed up with local volunteers last week to celebrate National Tree Planting Week. Tree week is the UK’s largest tree celebration annually launching the start of the winter tree planting season and it is a great event to get people involved in helping enhance local green spaces. The event this year took place at Downs Park in Horndean.
The team worked very hard on the day planting 10 cherry trees. Due to the chalk downland this was a tough task, 6 inches of soil tops hard chalk bed underneath, the tea break was well earned! Funding for the trees was provided by Cllr Guy Shepherd from his grant funding.
A big thank you to all involved. Anyone wishing to take part in volunteering locally please get in touch with Horndean Parish Council on 02392 597766.
