Residents at the planning committee hearing were disappointed (as were local Councillors) that the Bargate Homes application was approved by the planning committee despite strong representation against by Cllrs Schillemore (Ward Councillor) and Cllr Marge Harvey who both voted against the application, but were out voted. The LIPS – Local Interim Planning Policy Statement which we had pushed for did not have the weight we wished.
In the last two days there has, however, been a significant development.
Following representations, the Secretary of State for the Department of Communities and Local Government has issued a notice directing the Council NOT to grant planning permission until the application can be reviewed by Senior Government Inspectors and possibly decided by them.
This is a last minute reprieve for the residents of Lovedean, and very welcome. It is too early to say what the outcome will be but if it overturns the decision made by EHDC, will set a strong precedence for the Southcott Homes development next door.
