A mystery Horndean benefactor has made an extremely generous £5,500 pledge to fund a very large part of the project to replace the angel on the war memorial in Horndean which was damaged and replaced with a lamp following a freak car accident. See earlier article “Goddess to return to war memorial”
The Mystery Donor is very shy and quiet but it is hoped that a personal appearance might be made at the next Horndean Parish meeting on Monday 24th February 7:00pm at Jubilee Hall to formally present his contribution. The Parish Council still have to raise funds for the project and if you would like to make a contribution, big or small, then please email Cllr Schillemore via the parish offices which are at: contact@horndeanpc-hants.gov.uk or telephone the Parish Offices on 02392 597766. Alternatively, feel free to just turn up at the Parish Meeting.
This project is very much gaining momentum and will recreate an iconic landmark in the centre of Horndean as a fitting tribute to those who have lost their lives in the 3 wars it represents.
In the meantime Cllr Sara Schillemore who is leading the project is very keen to track down any descendants of people named on the memorial in the hope they might be represented when it is unveiled, hopefully in July this year. If you can put someone in touch with Sara then please email her on saraschillemore@gmail.com
