Here we have a nice clear postcard image from Horndean in the 1950’s. The postcard itself is franked 1959 and was sent to Belgium before making its way back to a collectibles fair in Chichester today.
Pescott & Sons Family Butchers, Poultry & Game stands where Nico’s and Lucky House now trade. Bettesworth the newsagents is now the village centre hair dressers, and a Self Service Store stands on the left where Shambles currently is.

Do you know anything about the people in the photo, businesses or when the ‘self Service Store’ was demolished? Please leave comments to share some local information.
What lovely trees. How sad they’ve gone. The view to Blendworth used to be a delight. Such a shame even more will be sacrificed to housing. We must remember that this countryside once gone is gone forever.
The self service store was the early Co-op store. Incidentally, The black car parked in Blendworth Hill belonged to my grandfather Mervyn Adams who lived there from 1936.
Been useing this pic on and of in my local history show pictures of Horndean Hill for the last 15 or so years no one has been able to say who the people in the picture are
