Please find below details of the Horndean Voluntary Care Group who help get less mobile people to appointments. This looks like an exceptionally kind spirited and valuable service and their formal information is below:
HORNDEAN VOLUNTARY CARE GROUP: tel 0752 833 1989
The Care Group has been in operation in the Horndean Parish area since 1979 and, during that time, well over 200 volunteers have ‘passed through their hands’ and they have undertaken thousands of tasks on behalf of the residents of Horndean, Blendworth, Catherington and Lovedean.
The Group endeavours to assist with transport door-to-door to hospitals, GP surgeries, dentists, opticians, shopping trips etc. So, if you have difficulty in travelling to your appointment, please give the Group a call on 0752 833 1989 with, if possible, at least 48 hours notice. The Group will ask for a donation to cover their expenses.
However, if you are lucky enough to have your own means of transport and feel able to assist the Group, give them a call – drivers can be reimbursed with a mileage allowance. Similarly, you could become a volunteer by taking incoming telephone calls in your own home from those residents requiring assistance. In this day and age, all volunteers will be required to undertake a DBS (formerly CRB) check at no cost.
Give the Group a try – you will probably enjoy it and make new friends at the same time! Telephone 0752 833 1989 for the Duty Co-ordinator.
