Noise from the A3 and A3M is a significant issue which affects our environment in Horndean, especially Downs Ward. Contributing factors which vary are the condition of the road surface, vehicle traffic and vehicle speed. Wind direction and weather also affect this, but do not vary year on year.
The carriageway is being progressively resurfaced and this is making a small difference, but acoustic fencing (which we are campaigning for) will be the best solution.
There is, however, much speculation on the increase in traffic flow over recent years, and especially with the opening of The Hindhead Tunnel.
In March I did my first Freedom Of Information Request, which was surprisingly easy, and issued this to the Highways Agency. Getting any form of response is, it seems, more difficult.
The Highways agency say they try to respond within 2 weeks. They are obliged to respond within 4 weeks and they are now several weeks over due. I will let you know when I do get a reply.
