It is summer, but given how long it takes to get anything done it really is time to be thinking about Grit Bins…
In the last months I have managed to arrange bins in 4 areas across Downs and am arguing the case in three other areas.
Juniper Close – Bin requested and installed
Chervil Close – Bin Requested and being assessed by HCC
South Road – The relevant bit of South Road included an unadopted private road which runs from the junction with North road, and gives access to some 34 properties. As the developer ‘did a runner’ before properly completing the road to a point where it could be taken over by Hampshire County Council the residents have been left with the ongoing maintenance responsibility and costs for the road. Previous attempts to get a grit bin at a mid way point have been rejected by the County as it is ‘not adopted’ I have followed this up with Ken Thornber, the Leader of HCC who has just stepped down and he has agreed that as the residents pay the same amount of Council Tax it is a perverse argument that they should not have the same grit bin provision, and a bin will be installed this Autumn.
Wasdale Close – There is a grit bin at the top of the road, but nothing further down. HCC have rejected a request for a bin at this location and I have appealed.
Claire Gardens – HCC have said it does not qualify and this is being followed up with HCC
