The last month has seen persistent and heavy rainfall, making 2012 the wettest year on record (like we needed to be told…) and this has had an impact locally on our roads, and threatened some properties. Rowlands Castle was particularly affected by the Lavant Springs, and flood wardens spent considerable time clearing ditches and culverts from debris, and placing an estimated 300 sandbags supplied by EHDC and HCC.
In the last weeks the problems have been so large that flooding has to be prioritised where occupied properties (particularly with people less able to help themselves) came first, and other problems followed.
If there is a flooding problem, then you can contact me, or any of the organisations below depending on where the flooding is.
If your HOME is at risk of flooding then call EHDC on 01730 266551 (please note this is specifically the home, not garden, greenhouse, garage etc) or 07850 358156 out of hours.
If ROADS are flooded then call Hampshire County Council on the emergency floodline 0800 807 0600.
The Environment Agency floodline number is 0845 988 1188. This will be more useful to people outside of Downs Ward who are in a recognised flood risk area.
If you are also at risk of your home being flooded then please call me too (07973 739988) and I will give what support I can.
